Former Imarika Sacco treasurer, Reuben Gideon Kaphu finally ended his distinguished career and dedicated service after almost two decades of committed and loyal service under his belt at the helm of Imarika SACCO.

In 1993, at the age of 30, Kaphu became a member of the SACCO after completing his studies as a primary school teacher. Eager and ambitious, he quickly became involved in the SACCO’s internal affairs. In 1998, an opportunity arose for him to pursue a leadership role, and he contested for a position. Successfully elected, he served as a delegate representing the Kaliang’ombe cluster within the broader Rabai zone. From that point onward, he continued to hold various leadership positions within the SACCO until his retirement.

Amidst a grand celebration organized by the SACCO to bid him farewell, Kaphu expressed his gratitude, stating, “It gives me pleasure to be connected to people I have worked with in celebrating and bidding me farewell after working together for 18 years, thank you so much Imarika for this big honor.”

Reflecting on his journey as a SACCO leader, Kaphu recounted, “In October 2005, I joined the Imarika SACCO board where I served in various positions until retirement as the SACCO treasurer. My tenure has been satisfying due to the cooperation you gave me.”

He fondly recalled the support he received from members at all levels, from grassroots to fellow board members, which provided him with the strength and confidence to fulfill his duties. Accompanied by his immediate family, Kaphu credited his wife Esther for her significant role in his achievements, stating, “Behind every successful man, there is a woman and, in my life, that woman is my wife, Esther.”

“As I retire to pursue other interests,” he added, “I am confident that the SACCO will continue growing positively for the betterment and welfare of the members,” Kaphu asserted.

“As the treasurer, he had a big responsibility to play and was always sure of what he was doing, especially when dealing with figures during budgeting time,” Ziro remarked. The chairman highlighted the SACCO’s significant growth under Kaphu’s tenure, with an annual turnover surpassing Ksh 1.86 billion, compared to less than Ksh 0.5 billion when he first joined the board 18 years ago.

Imarika Sacco CEO, George Yongo, praised Kaphu as an effective leader leaving behind a legacy worth emulating. “As the treasurer, he was responsible for staff welfare and really motivated us in many ways,” Yongo noted.
