Jamii DT Sacco has officially launched its new satellite office in Kisumu, marking a significant step in the Sacco’s expansion strategy and its efforts to bring financial services closer to members across the country.
Located at Mega Plaza in Kisumu, the new office is expected to enhance access to the Sacco’s products and services for members and potential members in the Nyanza and Western Kenya regions. The launch reflects the Sacco’s commitment to growth, financial inclusion, and member-focused service delivery.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Chief Executive Officer CPA Daniel Achieng’ emphasized the importance of a savings culture as a foundation for individual and community development.
“There is no other way we grow as a community and as a region without saving,” he said. “Jamii gives members a platform to save and borrow. As you borrow, we encourage you to invest wisely because that is important for long-term financial growth.”
The CEO noted that the opening of the Kisumu office is the result of careful planning and reflects the Sacco’s long-term commitment to serving members in different parts of the country.
Building on a 54-Year Legacy
Board Chairman Harrison Katoni highlighted the Sacco’s growth journey over the past 54 years, noting that it has evolved from a small institution into a national Sacco serving more than 28,000 members.
He said the Sacco’s operations are guided by its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, which focuses on four key pillars: Member and Customer Focus, Financial Management Focus, Internal Processes Focus, and Learning and Growth Focus.
According to the chairman, these pillars provide the framework for sustainable growth, operational efficiency, and improved member service.
Mr. Katoni explained that Kisumu was selected as a strategic location due to its growing economic significance and its position as a gateway to the wider East African region. He added that the new office will enable the Sacco to serve existing members more effectively while attracting new members from the region.
Support from the Cooperative Sector
The launch received support from county cooperative leadership, with Kisumu County Director of Cooperatives John Mingala commending the Sacco for expanding its presence to the lakeside region.
Mr. Mingala acknowledged Jamii DT Sacco’s 54-year history and described the institution as a well-established player within Kenya’s cooperative movement. He noted that the Sacco is entering a region with significant growth potential and access to counties within the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB).
“You have access to 14 counties within the Lake Region Economic Bloc,” he said. “The potential available for Jamii DT Sacco in this region is significant, and establishing a presence here is a strategic decision.”
He further assured the Sacco of support from the county cooperative office and encouraged residents, entrepreneurs, farmers, public servants, and other stakeholders to take advantage of the financial opportunities available through the Sacco.
