IG DT Sacco’s National Ushirika Day Triumph Reflects a Journey of Growth, Innovation and Member-Centered Excellence

IG SACCO Chairman, Rodgers Waswa, leads the Sacco in receiving Ushirika Celebrations awards from the PS Hon. Patrick Kilemi.

IG DT Sacco has reaffirmed its position among Kenya’s leading cooperative societies after securing three prestigious awards during the 2026 National International Ushirika Day celebrations held in Nairobi. The accolades recognize a Sacco that has consistently strengthened its financial performance, embraced digital transformation and remained committed to delivering value to its members.

The Sacco emerged as the Best Most Improved Deposit-Taking (DT) Sacco in the employer-based category with total assets between KSh 10 billion and KSh 30 billion. It also earned Third Position as the Best Performing DT Sacco and Third Position in Capitalization within the same category.

The national recognition crowns a year of remarkable progress for the Sacco, whose strong 2025 financial performance demonstrates that the awards were earned through deliberate strategic investments and sound governance.

During the Annual Delegates Meeting held in Kakamega, the Chairman revealed that the Sacco recorded double-digit growth across nearly all major financial indicators. Total assets grew by 12 percent to KSh 16.404 billion, while total income increased by 14.4 percent to KSh 2.288 billion. The loan portfolio expanded by 14.8 percent to KSh 14.103 billion, supported by a 20 percent rise in loan disbursements. Non-withdrawable deposits also increased by 11.6 percent, reflecting growing confidence among members.

These impressive results have reinforced IG DT Sacco’s financial stability and strengthened its capacity to provide affordable credit and quality financial services to members.

The Sacco’s continued investment in digital transformation has equally played a major role in enhancing efficiency and member convenience. Members now access a wide range of digital loan products, including E-FOSA Loans, E-Loans, E-Salary and Pension Advances, and E-Dividend Advances. The implementation of an Electronic Document Management System, enhanced e-guarantorship and the establishment of a dedicated Call Centre have further improved service delivery for members both locally and in the diaspora.

Membership growth has remained another major success story. Active membership increased to 29,430, while recruitment of new members rose by more than 84 percent compared to the previous year. The Sacco has also expanded its FOSA salary earners and continues to pursue untapped opportunities among teachers and other professionals within its catchment areas.

Beyond financial performance, IG DT Sacco has strengthened its governance and institutional capacity through strategic recruitment of senior management, reinforcement of critical departments and continued investment in human capital. The Supervisory Committee also affirmed that the Sacco maintained sound governance and regulatory compliance while recommending further digitization of member feedback systems.

The Sacco’s leadership transition also attracted praise from Kakamega County Cooperative Director Ben Kangale, who described the orderly change of leadership as an exemplary model of good governance within Kenya’s cooperative movement. He observed that such seamless transitions strengthen institutional stability and inspire confidence among members.

Kangale further emphasized that cooperative societies remain powerful drivers of socio-economic development by enabling ordinary Kenyans to access affordable financial services, build wealth and improve their livelihoods.

The recognition received during the National Ushirika Day celebrations therefore reflects far more than success in a competition. It represents years of prudent financial management, innovation, sound governance and unwavering commitment to members.

As IG DT Sacco continues to modernize its services and expand its reach, the three national awards stand as a testament to a cooperative society that is not only growing financially but also transforming the lives of its members through sustainable, member-centred development.
