Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime Calls the Cooperatives Movement to Emulate the Public-Private Partnership Model

Hon. Andrew Mwadime, Governor Taita Taveta speaking during the relaunch of Ports Sacco.

Taita Taveta County Governor, Hon. Andrew Mwadime during the relaunch of Ports Sacco, formerly Mombasa Port Sacco urged the cooperative movement to emulate the hailed Public-Private Partnership (PPP) investment model spearheaded by the government to foresee growth of the economy.

Public-Private Partnership model of investment is a framework that has over the years enabled the Government of Kenya to implement high quality infrastructure projects especially in the energy and roads sectors. These infrastructure projects have helped buttress and build resilience in the Kenyan economy, moving it towards achieving its full potential.

He said saccos should work closely with the county governments to foster growth and thus invited Ports Sacco to partner with the county government of Taita Taveta to enhance development.

Governor Mwadime noted that the sacco model currently equates to the Bottom-up model which focuses on the needs of every member in the society starting from those at the bottom of the pyramid.

He further stressed that Ports Sacco had outdone itself by rebranding and thus should do things differently and even inspire others that look up to the society especially those at the bottom of the pyramid such as the likes of ‘mama mbogas’.

Furthermore, Ports Sacco he said, had worked to the top of the ladder and even attracted the attention of the leaders and stakeholders in the cooperative world through its tremendous performance and thus should ensure the continuity of the same.
