Collaboration and Partnerships among Stakeholders be Enhanced to Foresee Growth in the Cooperative Sector

The Principal Secretary for state department of Cooperatives, Mr. Patrick Kilemi has said that for cooperatives to thrive well, there should be cooperation and collaboration among the stakeholders in the sector.

He said this during the first Co-operative Stakeholders Annual Conference organized by the Co-operative University of Kenya (CUK), where the PS also thanked the university and participants of the conference for their tremendous contribution towards the success of the conference.

He further pointed that the conference emphasized the need for partnership to foster growth in the sector and that the success of the cooperatives depended heavily on it.

PS Kilemi stated that the conference was a testament to the power that cooperatives hold in channeling for positive change in the society. Notably, adding that it’s through discussions that the stakeholders have been able to share ideas, challenge each other and also expand their networks.

The cooperative sector has contributed majorly in various sectors of the economy such as agriculture, finance, housing amongst others and consistently empowered individuals and enhanced livelihoods.

Through the pooling of resources and promotion of inclusivity, cooperatives have been a formidable force in addressing socio-economic challenges.

Kilemi moreover stated that the success of the cooperatives depended on the strong relationships between the members of the cooperatives, government agencies, financial institutions and civil societies.

“Through the provision of an enabling environment for cooperatives to thrive, it will contribute to sustainable economic development. Furthermore, to achieve such, proactive engagement with policy makers, sharing of ideas will be required to enhance a vibrant cooperative sector.” The PS stated.

Kilemi further urged the delegates to adhere to the insights shared in the conference and put them to action and also harness the potential of the business model to drive the economic agenda of the country and create a just economic society.
